#selfiesculpture

#Selfiesculpture involves the audience in the enduring question, “What is the role of art and artists?”, and frames it in today’s digital context. #Selfiesculpture is:

  • an experiment in audience participation and documentation

  • a celebration of the historic role of photography in framing and recording artists’ ideas

  • a feedback loop between the physical and digital that enables me to tap into online energy and engage with the audience

  • a response to the uptake of instagram as a digital platform for artists, galleries and museums and the lifting of the ban of taking photographs within these institutions.

  • a comment on the sharp rise in the popularity of “the selfie “ as a form of expression.

PLEASE NOTE: UNFORTUNATELY THE LOVELY TOOL I HAD EMBEDDED IN THIS PAGE THAT DISPLAYED ALL POSTS PEOPLE TAGGED #SELFIESCULPTURE WILL NO LONGER WORK UNLESS I PAY THEM APPROX $2000 PER YEAR, WHICH I WON’T. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO BECAME PART OF THIS ARTWORK BY BEING INVOLVED AND POSTING YOUR IMAGES.  IT WAS A FANTASTIC JOURNEY FOR ME AND AMAZING EXPERIENCE TO RECEIVE ALL YOUR FEEDBACK.

The images taken at night, and staring me, were taken by Geoff Magee , plus a few added nude Venus shots of friend and collaborator Jane Gillings. Some are taken at Sculpture By The Sea Bondi , 2014 and some at Sculpture By The Sea Cottesloe, 2015.
